WHO IS THE TEQNICIAN?

Born in the Bronx, New York on August 18th and proudly rooted in the vibrant culture of Antigua and Barbuda, Taviea Quinland — known professionally as DJ TEQ (pronounced "Tech") — is one of the most influential Soca DJs in the Southeast United States.

TEQ's journey into music began at Georgia Southern University, where he became the DJ for the Caribbean Student Association in 2019. Stationed in Statesboro, Georgia, he took on a mission bigger than just playing music — he brought Caribbean culture to life on a campus far from the islands, introducing Soca, Dancehall, and the spirit of Carnival to an entirely new audience. Alongside his role as DJ, TEQ also served as Event Planner and Treasurer for the association, proving early on that he wasn't just an artist — he was a leader and organizer with a vision.

Returning to Atlanta, TEQ wasted no time making his mark. He joined MyExclusiveRadio, one of Atlanta's Caribbean online radio platforms, and quickly earned his own dedicated show — TEQ Tuesdays. What started as a weekly slot became a movement, giving the Caribbean diaspora in Atlanta a consistent home for Soca, Dancehall, and Afrobeats on the airwaves and introducing TEQ's TEQNICAL sound to a rapidly growing audience across the city and beyond.

The radio platform became his launchpad. Known as "The Soca Technician," his signature TEQNICAL sound fuses high-energy Soca, Dancehall, and Afrobeats into precision-driven sets that move any crowd. His reputation built quickly — from the radio booth to the biggest stages in the Atlanta Caribbean scene.

Beyond performing, TEQ is also a proven event creator — founding and organizing Saturday Night Lime (SNL), one of the newest Caribbean events to enjoy in Atlanta, further establishing himself as a pillar of the diaspora community both on and off the decks. You can catch him live on TikTok, and holding down stages at events like Flag Frenzy, Dancehall Delight, Saturday Night Lime, and Rum Punch Brunch — and bringing that same TEQNICAL energy wherever the culture calls.

His dedication to Caribbean music goes beyond the booth. TEQ is also the curator behind Soca Selection — an Instagram platform dedicated to shining a light on new Soca and Caribbean sub-genre music. Whether you're a lifelong lover of the culture or just discovering the sound for the first time, Soca Selection serves as a gateway — introducing emerging artists and fresh releases to anyone with an ear for the Caribbean.

Throughout his career, TEQ has been part of events alongside some of the Caribbean music scene's most respected names — including Trinidad Killa, Khallion, Island Prince, Tian Winter, and more — building relationships that span the diaspora from Atlanta to the islands. In 2024, he was also crowned "Leader of the New School" at Rum Punch Brunch — Atlanta's Premier Caribbean Showcase — cementing his place as one of the most exciting voices in Caribbean music today.

Today, TEQ serves as the Official Road DJ for Madd Colors (ATL Carnival) and Insane Mas (Antigua Carnival) and performs at major events across Atlanta, Orlando, Toronto, Antigua, and New York. Book him now for your next major event and join the TEQNICAL journey.
